Solar Panels For Swimming Pools

Solar Panels for Swimming Pools! Heat Your Pool with Solar Power!

Solar energy has become a popular choice for homeowners who wish to generate their own clean electricity or heat and save on their bills. Even though electricity generating solar panels are the most talked about technology, solar thermal has been around for a longer time and was the first solar energy production to be widely commercialised in the UK. Solar thermal collectors harness solar energy which can then be used for space or water heating. In fact, one of the most popular applications of solar energy is swimming pool solar heating. These systems can heat your pool all year long with clean, free energy. Here are all their benefits.

Why Use Solar Panels to Heat Swimming Pools?

First of all, pools need to be heated even in warm weather, because they lose heat via surface evaporation. There are different ways to heat pools, such as an electric or gas heaters, heat pumps, and thermodynamic panels. So why would you choose solar panels? Solar thermal systems have a short payback period and will help you save money on your bills. While electricity and gas prices are constantly increasing and make your expenses fluctuate depending on the season, solar panels produce completely free and clean energy all year long, for as long as 20 years. Solar heating systems often have automatic control systems, so you won’t need to monitor them or spend any money on maintenance.

Pros of Solar Panels for Swimming Pools

*Depending on your geographical location and sun exposure, by installing solar swimming pool heaters you could keep enjoying your pool for up to 12 months.

*They have no additional costs of pool solar heating after installation and eliminate fuel costs.

*They last up to 20 years with no need for maintenance, and they usually carry a 10-year warranty.

*They are easy to install and can be placed on your roof or on the ground.

*They are the best choice for the environment and work in different climates, not just warmer ones.

*Solar swimming pool heaters are suitable for both residential and commercial purposes.

*Even the most extreme weather conditions will not damage the collectors: they are built to withstand hurricane-level winds exceeding 241 Km/h.

*The solar collectors work even in overcast weather because the sun’s thermal energy is unaffected by clouds. Active rain may cool them down, but they quickly regain their ideal temperature. Moreover, rain helps clean the collectors and makes maintenance easier than in dry climates.

How Do Solar Panels for Swimming Pools Work?

Swimming pool solar heating systems are efficient and easy to use. There are only four components in the complete kit: a solar collector, a pump, a valve and a filter. Debris is removed from the water through the filter, then the pump leads the water to the solar collectors, which heat it by using the sun’s energy. Then, the warmed water is pumped back to the pool. A flow control valve (manual or automatic) diverts water through the collectors.

Types of Solar Panels for Swimming Pools

*Unglazed solar collectors: this is the cheapest, simplest option. Unglazed collectors are not covered by a glass layer and are made of plastic or rubber. They have the disadvantage of being less efficient in cold climates but are much more cost efficient than their competitors. They are the best choice if you are only going to use your pool in above-freezing temperatures.

*Glazed solar collectors: these panels are more expensive, mainly due to the materials they are made of (copper, aluminium and iron-tempered glass). They are more efficient in cold climates and can be used all year long, even to for domestic water heating. However, both glazed and unglazed collectors can benefit from a freeze protection if they are intended to be used in extra cold conditions.

Useful Tips

In order to maximise the efficiency of a solar pool heating system and to be as environmentally friendly as possible, there are a few things you should consider.

*Using a pool cover helps lower the evaporation and preserve the heat you generate. Pool covers are not required but are a fundamental addition to solar heating kits. Dark coatings are recommended as they capture even more heat from the sun.

*In order to maximise the panels’ efficiency, you should make sure they are properly exposed to the sun (South-facing installations are recommended) and free of any shading.

*The size of the installation should be between 30% and 60% of the pool area or more.

      Winter Pool Maintenance

Winter Pool Maintenance: 7 Off Season Pool Care Pro Tips

Depending on the region you live in, ongoing pool care can be a year round requirement. Yes, the water temperatures are cold, UV ray angles are low and your pool might not have any bather load; however your pump, filter, heater and other pool equipment are functional and need to be watched.

When it’s finally the warm pool opening season, you don’t want to find out that your pool surfaces and equipment are damaged and unusable. By doing small, weekly pool care tasks, like balancing your water chemistry, you can save yourself from large, time-consuming repairs and replacements. To avoid unexpected problems when it’s time to open your pool for the summer, follow these seven off season pool care tips this winter:

      1. Keep an eye on your pool

If your pool is covered, remember to periodically remove any debris above the cover and check underneath it to ensure you have no unwanted surprises down there.

In addition, the winter-induced wind or snow can put stress on your cover, so make sure that your cover, attachments, water bags and lawn anchors are securely attached so they don’t come loose.

      Winter Pool Maintenance

      2. Balance your water chemistry

Water chemistry balancing is not as demanding as it may seem, but it is a crucial part of protecting your pool or spa investment. If pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid and calcium hardness are out of standard ranges for an extended period of time, it can wreak havoc on your pool equipment and surfacing.

In the winter, you should balance your pH, pool water weekly at a minimum; spa users are recommended to check their water chemistry every two to three days. In addition, use an algaecide to kill any existing algae and prevent new blooms during the winter. Your sanitizer levels can be reduced during the winter months, while still maintaining the proper water chemistry balance.

      3. Check on your equipment

Even when your pool is covered and not in use, dirt, pollen and other contaminants can still enter the water. So, remember to keep an eye on the filter gauge, perform backwashing and clean your filter per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Additionally, don’t forget to check your pool pump, heater and exposed plumbing to make sure everything is functioning properly and there are no leaks.

      4. Beware of freezing weather

If water is left in your equipment during the winter, the cold weather can freeze and expand the water and ruin your equipment and plumbing. So remember keep an eye on your freeze guard to ensure that your pool equipment has circulation when temperatures plummet. This can help you avoid expensive repairs from frozen equipment or plumbing.

      5. Clean your pool surfaces

Maintaining clean walls, floors and other pool surfaces will prevent algae growth. Skimming, vacuuming and brushing organic debris on a weekly basis is a great off season pool care habit that will save you time dealing with a green, dirty water in the spring.

Tip: Don’t forget to brush the hard to get areas, including behind ladders, steps and corners.

      6. Clear out unwanted debris

As debris builds up, remember to empty your skimmer baskets, pump baskets, floor cleaner containers and cleaner bags. This will keep your water and equipment cleaner, while also making your life easier in the spring.

      7. Monitor your water level

Always make sure your pool’s water level is correctly topped off to protect your pump and keep the pool primed. The right pool water level can depend on the climate you live in. If you live in a warmer environment, that doesn’t experience freezing temperatures, your pool water should almost be filled to the top during the winter. However, if you are located in a cold environment, your pool water should be four to six inches below the skimmer in the winter months. Spending a little time each week on your off season pool care will make a big positive impact on opening your pool this spring and summer.

        Enjoy Life Without Pollen

In spring and summer our gardens bloom with life. While this may seem nice, it can also cause people suffering from seasonal pollen-related asthma and allergies, such as allergic rhinitis. But what is pollen and how can you protect your family from its possible effects?

        What is pollen?

Pollen, which usually appears as a fine powder, is microspores that are transferred from one plant to another, resulting in the fertilization and production of new plants. As temperatures rise, pollen production increases causing a variety of symptoms in people with pollen sensitivity including sneezing, nasal congestion, redness, itchy eyes and tearing and / or itchy nose or runny nose.

        Pollen season

There are three main types of pollen that together extend the pollen season from early spring to late autumn.

        • Pollen from grass: It is the main culprit for asthma and pollen allergies associated with pollen and can affect people from March to October. Grass pollen can cause extremely strong reactions.
        • Tree Pollen: While different types of tree pollen occur at different times of the year, tree pollen is usually only a problem from February to June.
        • Weed Pollen: Weed pollen most often causes allergic rhinitis. It usually prevails in summer and early autumn.

          Heat Pump

Heat Pump For Domestic Hot Water

          What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump system circulates heat from an external energy source to a compressor inside a heat pump unit. It can collect low-grade heat from renewable sources such as water, ground or air to compress and deliver heating and hot water to a property.

          Advantages

The actual set of the heat pump is controlled by a climate curve for preventing that the hot air taken from outside (over 25°C with water at 65°C, over 35°C with water at 55°C) may cause high pressure alarms.

The electrical heater integrates automatically the temperature of the tank to the desired setting when the actual setting is controlled by the weather curve.

Predisposition for integration with photovoltaic system. After enabling the photovoltaic inverter, the set temperature will increase to the maximum value (according to the climate control).

          Flexibility and Benefits

Problem with Space? This is the answer. Compact efficient. Solar and 3rd party heating option connections available.

Waste heat recovery: the unit can be installed near the kitchen, in the boiler-room or the garage, basically in every room which has a largenumber of waste-heat so that it has the higher energy efficiency even with very low outside temperatures during the winter.

Hot water, cooling and dehumidification: the unit can be placed in the laundry room, in clothing room, gym or garage. When it produces howater it lowers the temperature and dehumidifies the room as well.

Compatible with solar energy: the unit can work with a second heat source as solar panels, boilers or other different energy sources (remark: the extra heat source is not provided with). The function for which the unit has been designed is only that of heat pump for DHW production. Any other side effect (ambient cooling, dehumidification, waste heat recovery) should be considered as a perk.

The performance data are therefore provided only with respect to the function of water heating.

            Solar Thermal

            How It Works

Have you ever felt warm water trickle out of a garden hose that’s been sitting in the sun? If so, then you have witnessed solar water heating in action.

Now imagine that same water moving slowly though a system specifically designed to heat and store water – that is the essence of solar thermal water heating. People have for centuries used water heated by the sun and stored it for bathing, hand washing, cleaning clothes, heating homes and much more. The solar thermal systems used today combine the most efficient techniques for capturing the sun’s heat with modern plumbing systems to produce cost-effective hot water and reduce the need for gas or electricity to heat water.

A Solar Thermal system works by harnessing the sun’s energy and converting it into heat, that is then transferred to your home or business. The solar collector utilises the sun’s rays to heat a transfer fluid which is a mixture of water and glycol, to prevent the water from freezing in the winter. There are a number of different solar thermal designs, but all are based on the same simple principle as the garden hose. Each has its pros and cons, and each is suitable for a specific application.

            Types of Systems

An important distinction among solar thermal systems is whether they are of direct or indirect design.

            Indirect system

In an indirect system, also known as “closed loop,” a simple pump moves the antifreeze solution through a loop into the solar collector, through the collector’s pipes, and out of the solar collector. Then, the sun-warmed antifreeze solution flows into a heat-transfer unit where it warms the cool water heading into a conventional hot water tank. The antifreeze solution then returns to the pump and again flows into the solar collector without ever mixing with the building’s water. Indirect systems are encouraged in climates with extended periods of below-freezing temperatures. We primarily install these types of systems. We find they produce the greatest amount of energy, more consistently, with a greater service life than other types of systems.

            Direct system

A direct system, also known as “open loop,” is a little simpler. There is no antifreeze solution; the water heated directly by the sun is the same water used by building occupants. A thermometer and controller sense when the solar collector is warm and ready to heat water. The controller starts a pump that moves cold water into the solar collector, where it is heated. The solar heated water is then stored in a conventional hot water tank. It is typical, especially during high use or periods of little sun for the water to be kept warm through supplemental gas or electricity. This type of system, because it circulates pure, potable water through an outdoor collector, is susceptible to freezing in many climates, unless safeguards are added.

            Applications of Solar Thermal

            • Solar Thermal Under floor heating

            • Solar Thermal Heating of domestic water

            • Solar Thermal Heating of the pool

            • Combination of the above

10 Pool Maintenance Tips That You Need To Try

The idea of having a pool in your own backyard will always be incredibly glamourous. It’s easy to give into daydreams of hosting weekend parties, adopting an invigorated fitness routine that includes laps after work, and spending long afternoons lounging poolside while cultivating the perfect tan. But, in those daydreams, one crucial element of pool ownership is often forgotten: the maintenance. Without a proper maintenance routine, your pool could succumb to a variety of less-than-luxurious conditions – green water, broken filters, and algae build up, just to name a few. And, no one wants to lay by a pool that’s seen better days. Here are 10 pool maintenance tips that you need to try right now. Whether you have just opened your pool for the very first time or you have been a proud owner for years, check out these tips to get your summer season off to the right start.

              1. Make A Skimming and Scrubbing A Part Of Life

Skimming the leaves and debris off of the surface of the water is a no-brainer, but it bears repeating. For a truly pristine pool, skimming  should be done daily. If you have a bit of money to spend, consider buying a robot vacuum that will clean the bottom of the pool for you. In addition to skimming, you need to scrub  the sides of the pool to prevent algae build-up. Thankfully, that doesn’t need to be done quite as often. You can get away with scrubbing once every other week. Just look for any growths and go at them with a scrub brush to keep your siding looking fresh and clean. For those particularly stubborn spots that won’t go away with any amount of elbow grease? Repurpose an old sock. Fill it with chlorine and let it sit on top of the spot for a few hours before scrubbing once more. The chlorine will eat away at the algae and you will finally have a use for those socks without pairs. It’s a win-win.

              2. Think Of The Filter As Your Pool’s Kidneys

Just as your kidneys are constantly working to remove impurities from your body, your pool’s filter is responsible for removing impurities from the water – think dirt, leaves, and even small toys. Most of the time, the pool can be cleaned by turning off the filter, removing the filter cap located on the pool deck, lifting out the filter basket, and removing any debris before replacing everything. It’s best to clean out your filter basket at least once a week. Once a month you will also want to clean out the pipes utilized by your filter system, which you can do by backwashing. To do so, simply set your filter to “backwash,” remove the leaf basket and clean it out. Then turn on your pump and let it run until the waste pipe ejects clear water. A final note on turning the filter on and off: doing so too often can cause the filter’s mechanics to crack. Set your filter on a timer and allow it to run for at least six hours a day.

              3. Pools Need Consistent Chemical Levels

Chemical levels are arguably one of the most important facets of pool maintenance.  Improperly balanced water looks murky, irritates skin and eyes, and can cause your pool to become a breeding ground for bacteria.Ideally, you should test the water at least once a week. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there are six chemical levels that need to be considered:

              • Cyanuric Acid – Protects chlorine from sunlight and determines the required Free Chlorine level. An ideal reading for outdoor pools is 30- 50.
              • Free Chlorine – A sanitizer which keeps your pool water safe and free of germs.
              • Acidity/Alkalinity – Also known as the PH level, acidity needs to be kept between 7.5 and 7.8 to prevent irritation and protect the pool equipment from eroding.
              •  Total Alkalinity –  Helps keep the PH in balance. Levels should be within range of 60-120.
              • Calcium Hardness – Appropriate levels help prevent plaster damage. Aim for 220-350, but lower for pools with vinyl siding.

Testing the water is easy. Simply buy a few testing kits from your local pool store. Fill it with a sample of your pool’s water. Add the provided solution to the testing kit and close the vials. After a few seconds, your sample water will change color and a comparison of the sample water to the colors shown on the testing kit should allow you to determine the current chemical levels. You should adjust the levels, as needed, to achieve an ideal balance. When all the chemicals are properly balanced, the water should be crystal clear, have no scent, and leave very little residue on your skin.

              4. Chemicals Costing Too Much? Give Baking Soda A Try

There’s no denying that pool chemicals can be expensive to purchase, so why not get a little help straight from the grocery store? Most pool stores suggest using sodium bicarbonate to control the alkalinity of a pool without drastically reducing the PH levels. They will try to  sell overpriced solutions in order to get the job done. As it turns out, regular baking soda does the same job as sodium bicarbonate for only a fraction of the price. All baking soda boxes even have “sodium bicarbonate” listed on their ingredients label. Take a look! If you are worried that using baking soda will mean doing a lot of complicated mathematical conversions, don’t be. Baking soda has the same concentration of sodium bicarbonate per pound as the solutions, so the amount you would need to add to your water would be identical.

              5. Don’t Be Afraid To Shock A Cloudy Pool

On the topic of chemicals, don’t be afraid to shock your pool when necessary. While that may seem like a process only fit for public pools. But, think about how your pool water looks after you throw a big party. Odds are it’s murkier than it was the day before the big bash. That murkiness? It’s bacteria that you will want to get rid of as soon as possible. Shocking refers to drastically raising the chlorine levels for a short period of time to kill bacteria. It’s done by diluting three to five times the normal amount of chlorine or other chemical sanitizer with water, slowly poring it into the pool’s return line, letting it filter throughout the pool, and then slowly refilling the pool with water over time. While shocking too often would risk damage to your pool’s siding, you should aim to shock the pool at least twice every season.

              6. You Need To Keep An Eye On The Water Level

As important as the chemical composition of the water is, the physical water level is just as important. The levels will naturally fluctuate after a heavy rainstorm or an afternoon of kids doing cannonballs. You want to maintain a level that is halfway up the opening of your skimmer. If the water is too low, simply use a garden hose to add the necessary amount of water back in. If the water level is too high, rent a submergible pump from a home improvement store to drain the excess. However, if you are pool’s liner is a vinyl or fiberglass material that could be easily damaged by the weight of the pump, consider consulting a professional. When you’ve reached the appropriate water level, remember to recheck the chemicals. The water level fluctuations will have thrown them off balance.

              7. Power Wash To Make The Pool Deck Shine

The area that surrounds your pool is just as important as the physical structure itself. You can help keep your pool deck shining by power washing. Power washing, also known as pressure washing, will help get rid of any rust or weather stains that occur over time. You can rent a power washer at any home improvement store. Start the process by sweeping the deck free of any errant dirt or leaves first, so you don’t end up spreading them all over during the cleaning process. Then, put the power washer together according to the directions. Set the machine on a weak to medium power spray and remove the surface debris in layers, repeating the process until the surface is clean. As you spray, be sure to overlap the  areas you have cleaned in order to help prevent streaks. You will want the nozzle of the power washer several feet off the surface of the pool deck and maintain this height to prevent gouging.

              8. Use A Tennis Ball To Absorb Oils

Most of the time when people think about tennis balls in a pool, they think about playing catch. However, those toys can do double duty. When swimmers exit the pool, certain oils can get left behind in the water – suntan lotion, hair product, the natural oils produced by our skin. While it’s unpleasant to think about, luckily there’s an easy solution. Simply throw a tennis ball into the water. The fibers used to make the tennis ball will help absorb the oils and keep them from leaving a slick sheen on top of the water.

              9. Schedule A Yearly Service Appointment – Whether You Think You Need It Or Not

Sometimes you need to trust an expert. Especially when it comes to your pool’s mechanical equipment – pumps, filters, heating systems – you may not have the proper knowledge for care. At least once a year, have a pool service professional come out to check your devices. Before your appointment, take a thorough look at your pool as a whole, making sure to use all of your senses. Compile a list of any leaks you see in the piping, holes you notice in the linear, loud sounds coming from the mechanisms, or odd smells coming from the water. Mention them to your serviceperson in oder to give him or her an idea of where to start. In the event that there is noting amiss with your pool, the yearly service appointment may seem like a waste of money and it can be tempting to cancel. Swimming Pools

Z & X Mechanical installations has been involved in pool construction since 1994. We are one of the innovators in this field introducing the Ester William Aluminum panel system with  PVC liner finish.

Since then the company has moved on to the prefabricated pool shell (Swimcrete America formwork) with liner finish. We also construct full concrete shell pools with water proofing and tile finish , and in all the types: skimmer , overflow, vanishing edge or combinations of the above.

Z & X Mechanical is also an agent for Hayward USA (one of the leader companies for pool products) which includes: pumps ( normal & variable speed), filters, white goods & lights, heat pumps, chlorinators, automatic cleaners, cleaning products etc. We also install equipment by other major manufactures like  Astral,  Aquasource  etc. as well as the German Lorentz  Solar pumps.

We also have a maintenance team that provides maintenance contracts to clients, as well as chemicals and any other equipment required.

                Swimming Pools

Swimming pools cool us down during the summer and in addition act as a feature to our garden and increase the value of our property.

A swimming pool consists of 3 major components:

                The shell

                Finishing or membrane

                Filtration equipment

                Types

There are four major types of pools

                Skimmer

                Over flow

                Vanishing edge

                Combinations of the above

                The Shell

The shell type depends on the type of pool. If your pool is as skimmer type the shell can either be of concrete with mesh reinforcing and either a PVC LINER finishing, or a concrete shell with  re bar reinforcing. This option requires waterproofing and tiles (normal or mosaic) and is more expensive than the liner option. A liner pool can also have a prefabricated aluminum shell, which saves time in the construction process.

Generally if your pool is an overflow type it has a concrete shell with reinforcing. The overflow system can with a channel and grill system, vanishing edge feature, or combination of both. An overflow pool can also be done with liner. This type of pool is more expensive than a liner pool and needs more maintenance.

                Finishing

A swimming pool with PVC Liner is the most popular and cheapest option. The liner comes in variety of colors and patterns. It is welded on site and cared for correctly can last a lifetime. It is also a lot cheaper to maintain and replace.

A tiled pool is more expensive, but a lot more attractive. This type of pool also needs to be water proofed and if damage occurs it is costly to repair.

                Filtration Equipment

A swimming pool system consists of the pump which circulates the water it draws from the drain, and skimmers / overflow (acts as skimmer)  and passes it through the filter ( sand / glass media),  or cartridge which cleans the water and recirculates it back to the pool via the inlets. The pump is either (i) electric but can also be (ii) Photovoltaic which has zero running costs. As a rule of thumb a pool pump should circulate the water every 4 hours and two water changes are required per day. The pool water is kept free of bacteria by the addition of chlorine and acid, or by salt chlorination which produces chlorine via an electronic cell. This is softer than normal chlorine and does not have the odor of chemically produced chlorine. Pools can also be sanitized with ozone generators or ultraviolet sterilization.

                Photovoltaic Pumps

Solar water pumping offers a welcome alternative to fuel- burning generators for pumping and irrigation applications.

Pumping systems are available and can be designed for small, medium and large scale water demands.

Solar electric powered pumping is extremely effective. Maximum pumping power is available on sunny days when water is more necessary.

They have good long term efficiency and credibility. They are pollution free, corrosion-free, self-lubricating and noiseless.

Swimming pools can be made to any design or shape. Your imagination and budget are the limit.

The Importance of Regular Pool Maintenance

Your swimming pool is a lot like your car. It requires a certain degree of maintenance in order to function properly. Just as you wouldn’t put off oil changes and tire rotations, it’s important to give your pool the same attention. Whether you handle it yourself or prefer to hire a pool maintenance company, here are a few of the ways you can keep your pool’s water crystal clear and bacteria free.

Managing the chemicals in your pool

Weekly, you should check the pH and chlorine levels. It’s important that your pH levels don’t dip below 7.0 or go above 7.4. Your chlorine should maintain a level of .6 to 1.5 ppm. You can use a digital meter or test strips to ensure that you get a proper reading of your water’s chemicals. Without weekly tests, your water may not be healthy to swim in.

                  Disinfecting the water

While water is fun to play in, it’s also a breeding ground for bacteria, algae, and fungi. Take the time each week to inspect your water and add the necessary disinfectant. While most people use chlorine to keep their pool clean, ozone therapy and UV lights are also great options.

Wipe down the exterior of the pool

The longer you go in between cleaning the tiles and the walkway, the more buildup there will be. Over time, this buildup can cause the tile to erode or to lose their luster. Be sure to use a cleaner that is safe for your water and that won’t break down the enamel of your tile.

                  Leak protection

The more frequently you inspect your pool, the easier it will be to spot a leak. The earlier you catch a leak, the less disastrous it is for your family and your property. Consider allowing your pool filter to run for 12 to 24 hours. Measure the amount of water in the pool before running your system and again afterwards. Refill your pool after running the filter and see if the water level changes. If it does, it’s time to call a professional to repair the leak quickly.

                  Filter cleaning

If you haven’t cleaned your pool’s filter in a while, you may be surprised at how dirty it is. The filter should be cleared out weekly to ensure that it works properly. Without it, you may find it harder to maintain your chemical levels or to keep the water clean.

                  Clean the pool liner

Your pool is full of dissolved soaps, hair spray, gel, and other products. They tend to leave a film on the liner of your pool that can be hard to clean. Using an appropriate cleaner take the time needed wipe things down frequently. This prevents buildup.

If you don’t have the time to dedicate to pool maintenance each week, hire a pool maintenance service. With experienced professionals, your pool will look beautiful all year around!

Top 4 Swimming pool shapes and styles

Once you have decided on the type of construction and chosen our professional builder, the next step is to implement the design. Take a look at these popular pool shapes to learn how they are best used. Then when you consult with your designer, you’ll have a better idea of which options can be accommodated.
                  1. Infinity Pools
                  swimming pool
Infinity pools are one of the most dramatic effects found in pool design. Made to outwit the viewer into believing that the pool flows over an edge into the neighboring vista, this type of swimming pool is actually a product of math and science: the water flows over the pool’s weir wall into a hidden trough where it’s recycled back into the pool. Homes that overlook spectacular scenery like the ocean, a river, mountains, or even nearby cityscapes are the best candidates to capture this design’s magic. However, a designer will also suggest an infinity pool for a property that is surrounded by natural lushness like wooded glens or palm tree groves.
                  2. Perimeter-Overflow Pools
                  swimming pool

Perimeter overflow pools are an optical illusion that uses water to imitate mirrors and flat deck surfaces. Water overflows on all sides into a trough in the deck, functioning like a 360-degree vanishing edge. When viewed from overhead or from afar, the pool appears to be a flat surface on the deck. It is only when the wind or some other movement ripples the surface that the effect disappears.

                  3. Classic Rectangle and Lap Pools

                  swimming pool

If your home is deluxe and traditional, then a classic rectangle is one of the best options as the pool’s straight lines will not overpower the property’s ageless elegance; in fact, those clean edges will reinforce the architecture’s magnificence, creating an even greater aura of elegance.

But don’t let your fantasy stop there. In fact, many designers choose to use this shape for non-traditional homes because it never goes out of style and will always coordinate perfectly with its surroundings. Rectangular pools can be adapted to a variety of locations, including modern, urban, and bucolic. When joined with an infinity edge or a perimeter overflow, this type of inground pool shape takes on even more character and allows the pool to truly become one with the setting.

Except to gracefully enhancing a home’s property, a rectangular pool can also be put to work. Many people enjoy using the pool for exercise and swimming laps. A lap pool is an excellent option for those who want more out of their pool than a place to dip their toes or float away the day. Built to accommodate a swimmer’s strokes and turns, a lap pool can be whatever length and width the user deems necessary. But don’t think that your pool must be utilitarian in looks—use your professional pool designer’s flair for the visual and keep the aesthetic around the pool in line with the rest of the property so the pool can also be the home’s showpiece.

By simply remodeling the design to create an “L” shape, the pool can be the best of both worlds: for those swimming laps, there is the straightaway, and for those wishing to play water volleyball or basketball, there is a separate wading area for fun and games.

                  4.Kidney-Shaped Pools

                  swimming pool

If you peeked over the fence of every home that has a swimming pool, you will notice that quite a few sport a kidney-shaped pool. The reason is simple: kidney-shaped pools’ soft, retro look is appropriate for a variety of architectural styles.

Many pool designers use this pool shape as a foundation from which to build more elaborate structures. No matter the building material, they will add accents like natural coping, glass tile, colorful plaster, or a textured finish to customize the project for your property.
